TODAY

My mind is filled with thoughts that take

Me far away from here.

To places where I dream and wake

To memories sweet and clear.

Those yesterdays are rich and full,

And still, I wonder why

There’s such a strong magnetic pull

To things of days gone by.

What is it that does draw me back

Into the web of time?

To tread the path or find the crack

That recreates my prime?

The lure of all those bygone days

Can never really be

As full and rich in every way

As moments such as these.

Now I’m aware TODAY, instead,

Contains all that I need.

Release what’s past and what’s ahead;

This moment holds the seed.

Do you love the sound of words and the way they fit together to create ideas and experiences?  Have you ever thought of writing poetry?  Sit down with pen and paper and give it a try!  You might just surprise yourself.

WHO

Who knows me ... knows me inside-out?  What makes me laugh and cry,

The way I feel when things go wrong, the meaning of each sigh.

Who hears me … hears me when I speak and understands each word?

Because he truly cares for me, I know that he has heard.

Who sees me … sees me as I am?  A strong yet fragile soul,

What I am now and yet can be, each piece that makes the whole.

Who loves me … loves me without fail?  Despite my sinful pride.

Whate’er I do or leave undone, his arms are open wide.

Who is this very special one who loves me like no other?

I’m sure you’ll recognize them both – My Father and my father.

Writing poetry isn't as hard as you might think.  Once you allow your mind to relax and open to the possibilities, words flow out in rhyming sequences.  Of course, all poetry doesn't have to rhyme.  Some is simply a free-flow of thoughts and musings.  Which do you prefer?

God's Richest Blessing

"Something special for Mom", I thought.
"Something precious that can't be bought.
What can I give her to help her see
How very much she means to me?"
My whole life has been richly blessed
With love and joy and happiness.
Why am I who I am today?
Mom nurtured me well along the way.
So, Mom, this poem is just for you.
My thanks for all you are and do.
The lessons you taught have helped me cope,
Have given me strength and faith and hope.
Families like ours are hard to find;
Where love abounds and words are kind.
Mom, you showed me how to live,
Set my priorities, grow, and give.
I admire you, Mom, your generous way,
The faith you live and share each day.
Because of you I felt secure,
Confident, capable, loved, and sure.
What better example of mom and wife
Could anyone have? A model for life.
You're patient, loving, kind, and then,
Add to that, you're also my friend.
