HOW TO MAKE PRAYER BEADS

for yourself and your friends

What are prayer beads? Prayer beads are a beautiful way to remind yourself to spend time in prayer and meditation. They can also be called meditation beads or reflection beads. Prayer beads are simply a tool to help you make a habit of being still and listening to your Inner Voice. Hold them in your hand and touch each bead, letting it bring to mind a particular aspect of your quiet time. It is not a bracelet (although it can be worn as well), but more a simple way of remembering the importance and beauty of prayer.

What you will need:

one 10" length of stretch cord (clear)

super glue or clear nail polish

18 beads (glass, wood, plastic, ceramic)

4 that are the same

2 that are similar

3 that are the same

7 others of various colors, shapes, sizes

17-20 spacer beads (be sure the center is large enough for the cord to fit through)

The beads represent

    1. God
    2. Silence (#1 of 4 the same)
    3. Self
    4. Confession (#3 & #4 are similar)
    5. Silence (#2 of 4 the same)
    6. Health & Wellness

    8. Worries
    9. Spiritual Growth
    10. Silence (#3 of 4 the same)
    11. Loved Ones

    13. Specific Person
    14. Specific Person
    15. Specific Person (#13-15 are the same)
    16. Silence (#4 of 4 the same)
    17. World Peace
    18. Hope

How to select your beads:

You can choose to have a color theme, or organize your beads in any way that is meaningful to you. This is simply a guideline to get you started. Let your own creativity direct you as you select the beads that speak to you. The same goes for the spacer beads, which go in between all the beads except #13-15 (unless you choose to use them there also).

Begin by putting a paperclip or some other kind of clip on one end of the stretch cord. Select each bead in the order shown above and string it onto the cord, placing a spacer bead in between the beads. When you have finished stringing all the beads as listed above, remove the clip and tie the ends of the cord together. They must be pulled tight from both sides of the knot, then dabbed with super glue or clear polish. Let it dry completely before clipping the ends back close to the last beads.

Use the guide below until you become familiar with the meaning of each bead, or designate a new meaning that feels more appropriate. May you be blessed by the addition of these beads to your prayer life. Enjoy! And feel free to pass this information on to your friends!

your guide to meditation and reflection

Prayer begins with stillness.  Practice becoming quiet in your body, in your mind, and in your spirit.  Just BE.

We say that we want God to talk to us, but are we ready to listen?  Try talking to God without words.  Let your thoughts and emotions be the carriers of your prayers of gratitude.

There is only Peace in the Presence of Spirit.

There is no need to ask for anything.  We already have all we need.  Just open your eyes and begin to appreciate what is already there.  The only prayer is "Thank-you.  Thank-you."
